Oh, Potty Training

Say a little prayer for mommy this week . . . she is losing patience with this potty training process. Probably wasn't a good plan to try to conquer this milestone while tired and pregnant. I just don't understand how a child can hold her pee all night long (most nights), but can't figure out how to poop anywhere but her panties. This is definitely not my favorite part about being a parent. I'm sure, this too shall pass. I keep praying that tomorrow is the day that Bailey will figure it out and for me to treat Bailey with love and grace through the whole process.

Pregnancy is going well. I had my 24-week checkup this week. All is good. The doctor actually started talking to me about the delivery - how soon I need to get to the hospital (much sooner than last time!), my plans for pain management, etc. I know I still have a ways to go, but it is sneaking up on me. We're nowhere near ready . . . don't even have a name picked out yet.

Joey and I are hosting the member/guest golf tournament and Rolling Hills this weekend. 3 days full of golf for Joey and evening events for both of us. Should be fun!

Have a great week!

22 weeks - Last round of Ottawa classes for a while . . .

Many of you who know me well know that I teach some online and weekend courses for Ottawa University. The extra cash allows Joey and I to do many of the home improvement projects on our long list!

Well, this week, I started my last round of classes for a while! I have two online that started on Monday and an in-person class this Saturday. I'm trying to get back into the habit of grading papers during every nap and after Bailey goes to bed . . . it's a little exhausting at times.

But, by the end of the July I will be finished and will take a much needed long break (maybe a REALLY long break) to get ready for the new baby. Say a little prayer for me that my patience stays strong.

Baby is growing and is constantly moving now. I can even feel kicks and punches on the outside. I'm trying to get Bailey to feel it, but she won't keep her hand on my stomach long enough yet. I think it might freak her out!

We've officially started week 2 of potty training with Bailey. . . have definitely made some progress this time around - but now we're trying to work on doing #2 in the toilet. She still tries to hide whenever she has to go. What is it with kids and hiding when they have to go poop? I left her alone in her room for less than 5 minutes today and what does she do? Goes into her closet, shuts the door, and poops in her pants. Patience, I know. Slow and steady wins the race!

Will write more soon.

P.S. - thought I'd share some funny Bailey comments from the last few days. Her vocabulary is really growing.

To Daddy . . . "Mommy spanking my butt again cause I was naughty."

To Mommy . .. "Mr. Brunner (our kind neighbor) has a nice pool Mama. I think I'll go swimming tomorrow when I wake up from my nap. Ok, Mama? "

When I walked into daycare to pick her up one day (I hadn't seen her yet that day) . .. "Mommy got a new dress . . . and new shoes too!"

When leaving daycare on Monday (I think she is confused by the days because I'm working wacky days this week), "Bye-Bye Teresa - have a nice weekend!"

TOO CUTE!

20 weeks! We're half way there.

Had my 20 week appointment today. All is well, besides the fact that I gained over 6 lbs in one month! Don't exactly know how that happened. I've still be walking/jogging 3-4 times a week and doing really well with eating appropriate portions and healthy food. Oh well, it is what it is.

After finding out we're having another girl, we spent much of last week searching for a new bedding set. We settled on one that we are very excited about and can't wait to get started on the nursery.

Bailey has been in a challenging mood the past few days. Maybe it's because her cousin Charlotte is in town. She is quite the little "performer." The more people that are around, the more she feels she needs to "steal the show." It's been wearing mommy down. Even Joey had enough of her at dinner the other night.

We're gearing up at the Todd house for a busy summer - this past week we repainted our deck and have been pulling up old landscaping in preparation for a new project we hope to complete before it gets too hot. Joey's been getting a lot of golf in . . . 3 tournaments in the last 4 weeks!

That's all for now. Will write more soon!

Week 19 - BIG Sonogram!

Well, if you are a betting person . . . bet on the toddler and mommy instinct every time! Bailey and I were both right - it's a girl! It's funny. My friend Anna from church is due the same week I am. Her son was convinced he was getting a sister and he was right too. Her ultrasound tech said that she's done a lot of sonograms and the toddlers always know and are always right!

Just found out this morning. We're thrilled . . . even more thrilled that everything seemed to be healthy and right on schedule.

Will write more as soon as I process all of this!

Week 18 . . . Anticipation

So, I'm officially in my 19th week, but wanted to give everyone an update.

This past week has been filled with anticipation! We have our big (and probably only) sonogram tomorrow at 11:00 AM (Tuesday, May 12th).

Since the beginning of the pregnancy, I had a gut feeling this one's another girl. But, the last few weeks I've been having my doubts. Bailey is absolutely convinced that it's a baby sister. She won't even consider the possibility that it is a boy. Maybe this has something to do with the fact that we call Holmes (our dog) her brother. She probably has a difficult time imagining mommy growing a "Holmes" in her belly:) Joey, on the other hand, thinks it's a boy. Believe it or not, he is quite the shopper, and I think he just wants to shop for something different for a change - boy stuff! So, would you bet on a mommy and 2-year-old's intuition or daddy's? Only time will tell . . . in less than 24 hours we will know if the baby decides to cooperate and not be shy. Joey says we will be making an appointment at Baby Waves for another sonogram if we don't find out. We are both very anxious to know so we can decorate the nursery, pick out names, etc.

We had a great mother's day. Went to church and watched two of our favorite babies being dedicated. Then, we had my parents over for a brunch. In the evening, we went to dinner and then went to see Joey's family for a while. It was very relaxing.

Bailey got me another year of zoo membership for mother's day. Joey learned a tough lesson with this one . . . never take a 2-year-old to the zoo if you aren't going inside!!!!!!! They went to buy the membership at the office on Saturday morning and Bailey threw a fit when she realized that she didn't get to go see the penguins and gorillas. I guess she kept saying "I NEED the zoo daddy, I NEED it." She also went to Kay Wiggins and made me a bracelet. She picked out all of the beads herself. The ladies that worked there didn't quite know what to think, but said it turned out much better than they thought it would. It's very colorful!!!!

Hope everyone has a great week. I'll try to post tomorrow after the sonogram and let everyone know the results.

Week 17

The theme of this week at the Todd house is WATER!  After getting nearly 5 inches of rain last Sunday, it seems to have been gloomy all week.

And . . . Bailey finished her latest round of swimming lessons this week at the YMCA.  We went twice this week - Tuesday and Thursday - since we missed a week due to illness.  Since it was the last week, Bailey got to go down the huge slide at the West YMCA.
Now, my daughter isn't the bravest of the bunch . . . except when it comes to slides!  She's still scared of strange men and not so strange men like our friend Derek, but she has no fear of slides.  She wanted to go again and again.  Before we'd even get to the bottom she'd say "More, again mama.  More again."  Here are a couple of pictures.

I've been feeling good.  Still pretty tired.  We did find out at our 16 week appointment that our sonogram is on May 12th!  Hopefully, the LO cooperates and we can find out the gender.

That's all for now.

Week 15

There is a reason I skipped Week 14 - I can't remember much of it! My darling two year old gave me the nasty stomach bug that has been circulating the area for weeks. I was pretty much knocked out for a week. My husband was out of town part of the time and my dear mother had to come help me with Bailey for a day or so. I could barely move. Thank goodness that is over with and I'm feeling much better.

We just got back from a fantastic weekend in Kansas City with friends. Bailey stayed with grandma and grandpa and had a great time. We made it back on Saturday to spend Easter with Bailey. She could care less that we had our Easter Egg Hunt indoors. She loved the jelly beans all the same.

I'll post our Easter pictures soon. Just trying to catch up from being sick and being gone. I have another Dr. Appointment next week and will schedule my 18-20 week sonogram at that time. Joey and I are praying hard that the baby cooperates so we can find out the gender.

My gut says girl, his says boy. I guess only time will tell. Then, the real work begins.
